I have to be honest, I despised this book in the beginning, for about the first quarter to half. But after that, I loved it, and stayed up til 6 in the morning finishing the book.
The story was great, albeit minus that first quarter/half. I dislike how many modern conveniences, as they say in the book, were there. It felt like too much for a steampunk novel. I also hated how they revealed what I thought was a massive twist so early. Ok, I'll admit, it did end up being a good thing because the twist became an integral part of the story, but still. Also I could predict it, never good. But like I said, after that, I enjoyed this book so much. The action, the intrigue, the relationships and romances. It was all brilliant, which is probably why I did end up staying up late to finish it. And that ending, OMG. I can't wait for the second book because that ending blew my mind.
The characters were interesting and fascinating. Loved Finley, and her friends. Finley kicked ass, while having an internal struggle that threatened to consume her.
Love Kady Cross' writing, even though, as I said, there was too much modernness for my taste. But I did enjoy the world building and her descriptions, as well as how good she is at creating good character relationships, and good characters in general.
Overall this book rocked. If you love steampunk, you'll love this.
